NMAA/NMADA FALL CONFERENCE
The 2017 NMAA & NMADA Fall Leadership Conference will take place October 1-3 at the Marriott Pyramid Hotel in Albuquerque. The event will provide numerous professional development opportunities for athletic administrators as well as the Association’s mandatory Annual Meeting of Schools. For registration information, please visit the home page on the NMAA website at www.nmact.org. Special thanks to BSN Sports for serving as the presenting sponsor of this year’s conference.
MY REASON WHY
There are countless benefits to participating in high school sports and activities, but a lot of concerns as well. To overcome resistance and drive participation, #MyReasonWhy highlights diverse stories and memories shared by students, parents, coaches, officials and community members. We’re working together to show how participation not only develops individual skills and character for the future, but drives a stronger sense of self and community that students will feel immediately and for the rest of their lives. To share your story visit www.nfhs.org/MyReasonWhy and share your story.
MEMBER SCHOOL’S “OFFICIAL VOTER” DESIGNATION
NMAA Bylaw 3.12.1 states “The administrative head of each member school, with local Board of Education approval, appoints the “Official Voter” for the school. The “Official Voter” is the school’s voting representative for all matters pertaining to the business of the NMAA when referendum is required.” NMAA Bylaw 3.9.2 requires that the “Official Voter”, and other staff information, is posted on MaxPreps on or before September 15. If you have any questions, please contact Sports Information Director, Tyler Dunkel at tyler@nmact.org.
AD’s TIP OF THE WEEK
Confirm games and Officials every week. Carve out a block of time every Monday morning to confirm that week’s games with your opponent school athletic director. Also, confirm officials assignments for all home games by checking your Arbiter assignments and confirming date and time with the lead official. This practice will eliminate the cost and embarrassment of showing up for a game that has not been agreed upon by both schools.
REGIONAL MEETINGS
NMAA Executive Director Sally Marquez will attend the Fall Regional Meetings around the state in conjunction with Cooperative Educational Services. The NMAA encourages all Athletic Directors to attend a session in their area. This will be an opportunity for Athletic Directors to have an open forum type session with the NMAA Executive Director on issues and topics of interest to them. Please note that the September 12th meeting in Las Cruces and the September 19th meeting at the NMAA Office is not in conjunction with CES.
Meetings are scheduled as follows:
September 12th – Las Cruces – 9:00 a.m. (Not in conjunction with CES)
September 19th – Albuquerque (NMAA Office – Not in conjunction with CES)
September 21st – Eunice – 9:00 a.m.
September 26th – Melrose – 9:00 a.m.
September 28th – Las Vegas – 9:00 a.m.

FEATURE STORY IDEAS
Attention Athletic Directors – If you have a student-athlete or a student in an activity at your school that you feel has a good story to tell, the NMAA would like to tell that story for you. Please email Tyler Dunkel at tyler@nmact.org or call at 505-923-3295 and share your feature story ideas.
COMPETE WITH CLASS NOMINATIONS
In an effort to establish and sustain the Compete with Class initiative, the NMAA will be highlighting acts of sportsmanship through various awards and recognition programs during the 2017-2018 school year. In order to do this, our office NEEDS YOUR HELP! Acts of sportsmanship by individuals, coaches, officials, administrators, spectators, or teams as a whole should be reported to the NMAA office as they occur. Photos of these acts would also be appreciated. Send your nominations to Tyler Dunkel at tyler@nmact.org.
