AND THE WINNER IS…
Something old, something new and plenty of blue.
The 2018 State Spirit Championships presented by Varsity Spirit had a little bit of everything in 2018.
Roswell’s Charlie’s Angels took home the blue trophy in dance for the seventh year in a row. The national champs’ two-day total was the largest margin of victory among any class in any category. Roswell took home the blue trophy with a score of 185.60, more than 13 points better than second place St. Pius X.
In Class A-4A, St. Michael’s Pony Express took home the blue once again with a two-day score of 176.40.
The 6A Dance champion was Valley for the sixth year in a row, this time with a score of 180.90. The Vikettes edged out Carlsbad by just over two points.
In the Cheer category, we saw some repeat champs as well.
For the second year in a row, the Questa Wildcats (147.19) took home the A-2A blue trophy. Pecos (153.87) won the 3A championship for the second year in a row. Taos won their fifth straight 4A title with a combined average score of 173.89, beating second place Hope Christian by more than 10 points.
Your class 5A champ for 2018 is Lovington. The Wildcats posted a score of 174.90, beating 2017 champion Valencia.
In Class 6A, Eldorado went from runner up in 2017 to champion in 2018. Eldorado earned the blue trophy with a total of 177.47, edging second place La Cueva by just over four points.
Coed A-4A top honors went to West Las Vegas with a score of 148.87, five points better than second place St. Michael’s.
The 5A-6A Coed winner is from the south. Onate (181.41) beat out Hobbs and Las Cruces to take home the blue trophy.
