ELDORADO SUFFERS LOSS IN WIN OVER AHS

 In General News, Press Releases

The Eldorado football team beat Albuquerque High 42-8 Thursday night but in the process suffered their biggest loss of the season.  Senior quarterback Gabe Smith left the game in the first quarter after suffering what appears to be a broken collarbone.

“It’s not good,” is how Eldorado head coach Charlie Dotson responded after the game. “He will be re-evaluated on Friday.”

“It’s always hard to lose any player, especially one that has worked as hard as Gabe.  His spirit and attitude was positive after his injury.  He is a tough kid.  We are keeping our fingers crossed that he can return at the end of the season.”

Smith is considered one of the top quarterbacks in the state this season.  In a game against Las Cruces earlier this year, Smith accounted for over 600 yards of offense and 9 touchdowns.

Junior quarterback Nick Petty came in to replace Smith in the first quarter.  The Eagles improved to 4-1 on the year and face Del Norte next week.
