NMAA RECOGNIZES 2017-2018 SUBWAY DIRECTOR’S CUP WINNERS
Albuquerque, N.M. – Melrose, Fort Sumner, Pecos, Hope Christian, Artesia, and La Cueva were all honored on Monday for claiming the Subway Director’s Cup for the 2017-2018 school year.
The Subway Director’s Cup is awarded annually to the top New Mexico Activities Association member schools in each classification based upon success in activities, athletics, and sportsmanship.
Melrose High School took home the Class 1A cup while winning state championships in Football, Volleyball, Boys Basketball, and Girls Track & Field. They also had state runner-up finishes in Girls Basketball and Boys Track & Field.
In Class 2A, Fort Sumner High School earned the cup, winning state championships in Football, Boys & Girls Basketball, and Boys Track & Field. In addition, they had a state runner-up finish in Cheer and received zero-deductions as they had no ejections in 2017-2018.
Pecos High School claimed the Class 3A cup through its state championships in Boys Cross Country, Boys Basketball, and Cheer. They also finished as the state runner-up in Girls Cross Country and received zero deductions as they had no ejections in 2017-2018.
In Class 4A, Hope Christian took home the cup while winning state championships in Boys Soccer, Boys Basketball, and Baseball. In addition, they had state runner-up finishes in Girls Cross Country, Cheer, Dance, Boys & Girls Golf, Girls Track & Field, and Chess.
Artesia High School earned the Class 5A cup, winning State Championships in Football, Softball, Bowling, Choir, Concert Band, and Rodeo. They also had state runner-up finishes in Girls Golf and Boys Track & Field and received zero deductions as they had no ejections, a feat only three schools in Class 5A accomplished for 2017-2018.
In Class 6A, La Cueva High School claimed the cup while winning state championships in Girls Soccer, Baseball, Girls Golf, Girls Track & Field, and Concert Band. In addition, they finished as the state runner-up in Football, Boys Soccer, Girls Swimming & Diving, Cheer, and Boys Tennis.
