SUBWAY FEATURED STUDENT: CAROLINA TREJO, HATCH VALLEY
The love that she gave along with the love for her game and the love for others. That sums up Hatch Valley senior Carolina Trejo. She is not only a successful student-athlete, but a person who cares about others as much as she cares about her sport. She is a soccer player in the fall and softball player in the spring. She is also part of National Honors Society. Last year, through that school organization, she went on a trip to San Francisco for NHS. They took campus visits to both Stanford and Cal Berkeley. “It’s nice to know I can go anywhere, it’s not that far of a limit,” is what Trejo took away from the trip. “Anything is possible.”
She started playing soccer when she was 6 years old. “It’s always been a big part of my life and I enjoy playing.” Her team is one of the top squads in the state. The Bears reached the postseason each of the last two years but were eliminated in the first round both times. This year her squad earned a top four seed and a first round bye in the postseason. Trejo is a captain on the team and likes to encourage the other girls.
“I really enjoy helping people, just helping people in general is something I like to do. Even on the field, if they fall I’m there for them. Sometimes it’s my fault but I go and pick them up,” joked Trejo.
She would like to pursue a career in nursing. It seems to fit with her theme, the love that she gave.
Carolina Trejo and Hatch Valley will play in the quarterfinals of the Fuddruckers State Soccer Championships on Wednesday. Hatch Valley will face Santa Fe Prep at 9:30am.
