SUBWAY FEATURED STUDENT: ANDRES SANTAELLA, GADSDEN HIGH SCHOOL
Andres Santaella is a running back from Gadsden High School who isn’t afraid of a little contact. He first took up the sport in the seventh grade playing flag football. Making the transition to tackle football was an adjustment. “It was pretty rough,” he said. “I didn’t know what to expect.”
“Now I like the competitiveness and the contact.” The senior has a new head coach for his final season of high school football. Dino Facio Jr took over the program and Santaella welcomed the change. “Coach always makes sure we are flying around and having fun.”
“There hasn’t been many wins coming in and now as seniors we are coming together as one,” explained Santaella. “Having a new coaching staff this year got us excited because it was something new.”
Santaella hopes to pursue a career in law enforcement, “They protect their community and it’s challenging because you don’t know what could happen.”
Protect and serve, it’s a motto Andres Santaella wouldn’t mind following for years to come.
