DANA PAPPAS OF THE NMAA RECOGNIZED BY NFHS WITH CITATION
Indianapolis, IN – Twelve leaders in high school activity programs across the country have been selected to receive National Federation of State High School Associations Citations.
An award designed to honor individuals who have made contributions to the NFHS, state high school associations, athletic director and coaching professions, the officiating avocation and fine arts/performing arts programs, the NFHS Citation is one of the most highly regarded achievements in high school athletics and performing arts.
One of New Mexico’s own, Dana Pappas of the New Mexico Activities Association, was selected to receive the NFHS Citation for Service to Officiating. Pappas works with the NFHS Officials Association and the New Mexico Activities Association as Deputy Director as well as Commissioner of Officials. Pappas also oversees the Student Leadership Advisory Council, Activities Council and is responsible for coordinating the State Choir and Concert Band Contests each year.
Pappas is in her 22nd year with the NMAA. “I was shocked and it seemed strange to get an award for doing something you love,” said Pappas. “I never thought of it as wanting to be recognized, I just want to make a difference and try to make others better.”
The 2019 NFHS Citation recipients will receive their awards July 1 at the 100th annual NFHS Summer Meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana.
