El Richards/Frances Walsh Spirit Scholarship presented by Varsity Spirit – Jennifer Acosta – Raton
The New Mexico Activities Association is excited to announce the recipients of the 2019-2020 NMAA Foundation Scholarships. Over 150 students were nominated or submitted applications, with a total of $22,000 being distributed through 18 different scholarships. There were nine scholarship categories. The NMAA will recognize each of these students individually on our website and social media platforms.
Jennifer Acosta from Raton High School received a $1,000 El Richards/Frances Walsh Spirit Scholarship presented by Varsity Spirit.
Jennifer Acosta, a senior cheerleader at Raton High School, has been a vital part of the Tigers cheer squad for five years. She has been a member of two state championship teams at Raton (2016 and 2019) and helped her team to runner-up finishes at the State Spirit Competition in 2017 and 2018.
Acosta is also a UCA All-American and a Spirit Xpress West All-American, all while carrying a GPA of 4.24.
She stays active in many school activities including New Mexico FCCLA, where she is the chapter president, the State of New Mexico President and the Junior Vice-President of Membership. In the Student Council, Acosta is the student body president and secretary. Acosta is also involved in the National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Pep Club.
