Extraordinary Participation Scholarship presented by the NMAA Foundation – Mercedes Mummert – Albuquerque High
The New Mexico Activities Association is excited to announce the recipients of the 2019-2020 NMAA Foundation Scholarships. Over 150 students were nominated or submitted applications, with a total of $22,000 being distributed through 18 different scholarships. There were nine scholarship categories. The NMAA will recognize each of these students individually on our website and social media platforms.
Mercedes Mummert of Albuquerque High School received a $2,500 Extraordinary Participation Scholarship presented by the NMAA Foundation.
Mercedes Mummert of Albuquerque High excels in many sports and activities for the Bulldogs, while maintaining a 4.58 GPA.
As a soccer player, Mummert helped her team to three district championships, earning All-District and All-State for three years. She was also a four-year letter winner in swimming, serving as team captain. On the track, Mummert was a district champion in the pole vault and was a two-time state qualifier.
Mummert also spends time volunteering as an after school tutor, as a swim lesson instructor, at Carrie Tingley Hospital and at her church as a children’s care helper. She was also selected as an APS and KRQE Selfless Senior in 2020. Following graduation, Mummert will continue her soccer career at Hardin Simmons University beginning in the Fall of 2020.
