NMAA TO HOLD STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS IN CROSS COUNTRY, VOLLEYBALL, AND SOCCER – “BOWL” GAMES IN FOOTBALL
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico Activities Association is excited to announce that the 2020-2021 high school cross country, volleyball, and soccer seasons will conclude with a State Championship event. Although there will not be a championship for football, schools will conclude this unique season with a “Bowl Game” that will allow for schools to compete outside of their respective regions.
The New Mexico Public Education Department recently confirmed that these culminating events could be held but must take place in accordance with the state’s public health orders. Most notably, this means that all events must adhere to the guidelines established in the public health order for high school athletics and large entertainment venues per the color designation of each county.
Sally Marquez, NMAA Executive Director, said, “The return of high school athletics has positively impacted communities across New Mexico, and we have now taken another step towards some sort of normalcy for our students with the announcement that our fall sports’ seasons can conclude with a culminating event. We truly appreciate the support from the PED, the Department of Health, and the Governor’s Office for their help in making this happen.”
