NMAA HIRES NEW COMMISSIONER OF OFFICIALS

 In General News, Press Releases

The New Mexico Activities Association is pleased to announce Zac Stevenson as the new Commissioner of Officials.  Stevenson fills the position previously held by Dana Pappas who accepted a new job with the National Federation of State High School Associations.

“Zac checks all the boxes when it comes to his experience as an official and more than two decades of working in education-based athletics,” said NMAA Executive Director Sally Marquez.  “He will be a perfect fit to our organization as he has worked with the Michigan High School Athletic Association as an official, official instructor/mentor, and served on multiple sport committees.”

Stevenson comes to New Mexico after 23 years of working as a district athletic administrator, assistant principal, physical educator, coach and official in various communities in both Michigan and New Hampshire.

“I feel that my strong interest in coaches and officials’ professional development will be an asset for the NMAA,” said Stevenson.

Stevenson will oversee the officiating training and education programs for over 1,700 interscholastic sports officials in ten sports for the New Mexico Activities Association.

“Dana has built a great foundation for the association and Zac is the right person at the right time to continue the positive, upward trajectory of the NMAA,” said Michigan High School Athletic Association Executive Director Mark Uyl.

Stevenson’s first day in his new position will be August 2, 2021.
