WHAT A COMEBACK!
There are some impressive come from behind wins in all sports, but what the McCurdy High School softball team pulled off on Tuesday was remarkable. In game two of a doubleheader with Laguna Acoma, the Bobcats gave up 15 runs in the first inning. After surrendering two more runs the following inning, It was 17-0 when McCurdy came to bat in the second inning. That’s when the comeback started. McCurdy scored 8 in the second, then another 5 runs in the third inning. The Bobcats gave up a few more runs to Laguna Acoma along the way, followed by five more by McCurdy, making it a 21-18 ballgame in the 5th inning. But the Bobcats were not done scoring. The McCurdy players drove in four more runs to win the game 22-21, coming back from 17-runs down to win the game.
“Both teams played their hearts out and gave it their all,” said McCurdy head coach Joseph Valdez. “In the last 6 years I’ve coached McCurdy, I’ve never seen anything like it.”
The 17-run comeback was the second double-digit deficit the Bobcats recovered from that day. In game one of their doubleheader with Laguna Acoma, McCurdy was down 13-2 and rallied to win 20-15. The Bobcats improved to 4-8 on the year and will play Pecos in a doubleheader on Friday.
