FORMER PLAYER OF THE YEAR RETURNS TO NEW MEXICO AS A PRO
Former Piedra Vista High School standout Chase Silseth is back at the ballpark where he played his last high school game. Silseth is currently on the AAA Salt Lake Bees pitching staff, in Albuquerque this week for a series against the Isotopes.
In 2018, Silseth was named the Gatorade New Mexico Baseball Player of the Year. He led the Panthers to the State Championship game with a 7-3 record and a 1.25 ERA, striking out 53 batters and allowing just 20 hits his senior season.
His collegiate career included stops at the University of Tennessee, College of Southern Nevada and the University of Arizona. Chase was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in the 11th round in 2021. He made his major league debut with the Angels last May, throwing six innings of one-hit ball while striking out four and walking just two in his first outing. He went 1-3 in seven big league starts last year.
In his first outing with Salt Lake this season, Chase picked up six strikeouts over five scoreless innings of work. Silseth is schedule to pitch for Salt Lake Friday night.
Here is a conversation we had with Chase on Wednesday.
