SILVER STANDOUT HOPING FOR MORE STATE RECORDS
Alexys Salas of Silver High School has a lot on the line in the coming weeks. The two-time defending state champion in the shot will compete at the state track and field championships in May. Salas is also the Class 4A defending state champion in the discus as well. On April 12, Salas and several hundred other student-athletes will compete at the state powerlifting championships at the Rio Rancho Events Center. Salas made her mark at last year’s state powerlifting championships with a deadlift of 405 pounds. She hopes to set more state records this year when she competes at an even lower weight class. Here is a conversation J.P. Murrieta had with the senior who committed to compete at Kansas University in the fall.
