FALL SPORTS OFFICIALLY UNDERWAY IN NEW MEXICO

The warm temperatures may still give the impression it’s summer, but the entire fall season is underway in New Mexico.  Monday was the official starting day for workouts of all fall sports, except football.  Football had their practices begin last Monday.  The first scrimmages in football will take place this week with the opening weekend of regular season varsity games to begin August 22-24.  Middle school football’s start date is today, Monday August 12th.

The State Championships for fall sports will take place in the months of October and November.  The Soccer State Championship brackets will be released on Sunday October 27th, with the first-round games beginning October 29-30.  The 6-man and 8-man football brackets will also be released on Sunday October 27th.  The Class 2A-6A Football championship brackets will be released the following week on Sunday November 3rd. The Cross Country State Championships will be held Saturday November 9th at Albuquerque Academy. The following day, Sunday November 9th, the NMAA will announce the brackets for the Volleyball State Championships, with the tournament running from November 14-16 at the Rio Rancho Events Center.  The fall sports championship season will conclude with the Class 2A-6A football state finals being played on Saturday November 30th.

This year, the New Mexico Activities Association will also host the first ever Marching Band State Championships on Saturday October 26th at Rio Rancho High School.
