Melrose Volleyball Focused on Growth

 In General News, Press Releases

Melrose High School volleyball coach Casey Jackson is in his 11th year with the Buffaloes.  He’s reached the final each of the last 10 state tournaments.  Let that sink in for a moment.  Jackson is a perfect ten in reaching the state championship game each year he’s been in charge, winning five state titles along the way.

Melrose lifted the blue trophy three of the last four years, but Jakcson isn’t focused on wins and losses as the season gets underway.   “Right now, we are concentrating on improving and growing each day,” said Jackson. “We are focusing on getting our team unit where it needs to be, so that maybe we can make another run.”

Melrose will make that run with six seniors returning, four of who saw significant playing time last year.  All-state middle blocker Kambree Draper returns to the lineup.  Junior Hally Draper is also back and senior Chantzee Elliot returns, coming off a mid-season knee injury. “I think we are going to have 5 or 6 hitters that are going to have to get us significant kills,” said Jackson. “It’s not going to be just one hitter that is going to show up, it’s going to have to be a group. It’s going to have to be a collective effort.”

Melrose will open the season August 27th at Capitan.
