JB White Foundation Helps Turn Tragedy Into Hope
The memory of a prolific high school basketball player who tragically passed away lives on with a heartfelt gesture. This year, the JB White Wing Shoe Gifting Program provided 40 pairs of shoes to high school basketball players in need across New Mexico. With the help of JB White Board member and former University of New Mexico assistant basketball coach Jerome Robinson, the foundation connected with Jamal Murray of the Denver Nuggets and provided shoes to students at Grants High School, Rio Rancho High School, Taos High School, Eldorado High School, Jemez Valley High School, Pine Hill High School, Jemez Mountain Public Schools, and New Mexico School for the Deaf.
“At our foundation, we understand the profound impact that sports can have on a young person’s life,” said JB White Foundation founder Jude Voss. “Donating shoes is one way we can help empower the kids of New Mexico to stay focused on their goals.”
JB White was a standout basketball player at Santa Fe High School with multiple scholarship offers. White was shot and killed in August of 2020 before he could start his collegiate basketball career at the University of New Mexico. “I feel strongly that I am building relationships across the state, and I believe they will all be on board to implement my Gun Violence Awareness plan targeting the youth,” Jude added. “They will work with me to implement in their schools. I am working on what it will be, but I’ve mentioned it to them, and they are all on board to help in any way they can.”
