NEW MEXICO COACH HITS MILESTONE MARK

 In General News, Press Releases

Cimarron beat Springer 56-46 on Thursday night, giving head boys basketball head coach Eloy Brazil his 700th career win. Brazil is 6th on the all-time wins list in New Mexico.  Ralph Tasker is the state’s winningest coach with 1,117 victories. “I was fortunate enough to choose a profession that I enjoy working at year after year,” said Brazil. “Winning comes from hardworking; a work ethic I learned from my mother and my grandparents.”

Brazil started his coaching career in 1976, at the age of 21, and has coached at Cimarron, Maxwell, and Springer High Schools.  Brazil led the Rams to their 1st state title in 1979, and also won state championships with Maxwell (2017) and Springer (2004, 2002). “I want to thank all the players I’ve coached over the years,” said Brazil. “I’m especially proud of the fact that they have all grown up to be successful young men.  Also, to my assistants and administrators who have supported me, a special thanks.  700 wins kind of means you have been around for a long time!”
