SPRINGER FRESHMAN SETS NEW BASKETBALL RECORD
The Springer High School boys basketball team put up some record numbers recently. Pablo Romero set a New Mexico high school record for most three pointers in a game when the freshman hit sixteen 3’s in a 91-31 win over Reserve on January 11th, 2025. Pablo broke the previous mark of 15, set by his older brother, Estevan, in 2016. Pablo’s assistant coach, Isaiah DeHerrera, held the record before that when he hit 14 three pointers back in 2009. De Herrera remains on top of the record book with 164 three pointers in a single season.
Pablo only had 6 points at halftime against the Mountaineers, but he exploded for 11 three-pointers in the third quarter. His total of 33 points is also a new state record for most points in a single quarter. On the game, Pablo Romero hit 16-of-21 from behind the arc and finished with a game-high 48 points last Saturday. His sixteen 3-pointers in a game ranks tied for 11th nationally. As a team, Springer tied the single-game record for three pointers with 23 that night. Texico also reached that same number earlier this month.
