“The game holds an incredible individual statistic for Dorian Lewis, but make no mistake, this was a team effort,” said head coach Heath Ridenour.
“We played a very tough opponent and were able to come away with a big victory,” added Ridenour. Defensively we stepped up and answered the call.”
Eldorado quarterback Gabe Smith was coming off an outstanding outing the previous week where he accounted for over 600 yards of offense and had his hand in 9 scores. Thursday night against the Storm, Smith ran for two scores and threw two touchdowns.
“Gabe Smith is a very dynamic and explosive football player,” said the Cleveland head coach. “I thought our defense did a great job in slowing him down a little bit.”
The Storm scored their first two touchdowns in the first couple minutes of the game. “Offensively we got behind our offensive line and let our running backs work,” explained Ridenour.
Cleveland is now 3-0 on the season. Eldorado drops to 2-1. Next up for the Storm is a date with Mayfield in Las Cruces on September 14th. The Eagles take on Atrisco Heritage next week.
In other Thursday action, the Rio Grande football team snapped their 39-game losing streak. The Ravens beat Valencia 38-22.
